KATHMANDU: Jhalanath Khanal, the senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist), has demanded a complete rewriting of the party statute.
Speaking at the Central Committee meeting on Saturday, Khanal called for rewriting the statute, claiming that the party’s work has not been in line with the spirit of the statute convention. Khanal added that the revised statute should be passed through the party’s statute panel.
“I was unanimously elected as a senior leader by the convention representatives, but the statute states that the Central Committee will appoint the senior leader,” a central member quoted Khanal as saying in the meeting. “This was not written by mistake; it is clearly a well-planned conspiracy.”
The leader added that Khanal was very aggressive in the meeting and also objected to the changes made to the statute by Beduram Bhusal.
He also questioned whether there was a plan to dissolve the party. “This statute mentions the authority to dissolve the party. Why was it included? There is a provision for what to do if the party faces a crisis, but there is no provision anywhere to dissolve the party,” Khanal said in the meeting.
Stating that three office-bearers unanimously elected by the convention have been removed from the statute, Khanal termed the act a grave conspiracy.
