KATHMANDU: Former mayor of Kathmandu, PL Singh, passed away early Monday morning at the age of 88.
According to Nepali Congress (NC) leaders, Singh passed away at around 1 am at his residence in Chaksibari, Thamel.
Singh contested the mayoral election as the Nepali Congress (NC) candidate following the popular movement of 1990. He was considered a close aide of the late NC leader Ganesh Man Singh.
For years, Singh had been residing with the family of the late Ganesh Man Singh’s son, Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh.
Deputy Prime Minister Singh paid tribute tributes to the eldest member of his family in a social meida post, stating: “PL Singh’s invaluable contribution to the democratic movement will be remembered for generations.”
Singh’s body will be kept at the Nepali Congress Central Office in Sanepa to allow party leaders, cadres, and well-wishers to pay their respects. As per family sources, he will be cremated at Lakhatirtha near the Kankeshwari Temple later today.
Sing was unmarried.
