KATHMANDU: The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), a global organization for running, is holding its board meeting in Kathmandu.
According to AIMS Ambassador for Nepal, TS Thakuri, the meeting is scheduled to take place on June 4–5.
This marks the first time that a global federation board meeting of any discipline is being held in Nepa, according to Thakuri, who is also the organizer of the Nepalgunj Marathon.
“The AIMS board meeting being held in Nepal is joyous news for the country’s tourism sector. It will promote Nepal globally and provide Nepali race organizers with a golden opportunity to expand their connections with the international community, familiarize themselves with the global running campaign, and learn from it,” Thakuri said.
AIMS has around 450 road race organizers in 120 countries as its members. It is also responsible for measuring and certifying road races worldwide.
AIMS President Paco Borao has expressed gratitude to Nepal for hosting the board meeting.
According to Thakuri, they are holding interactions between AIMS and road race organizers in Nepal on the sidelines of the board meeting.
