KATHMANDU: Nepali actors, litterateurs and journalists, among others, who attended the premiere of Nepali movie Aainaa Jhyalko Putali (Butterfly on a windowpane) on Monday have heaped praises on the film. They shared with Himal Press that watching the film was like watching their own story on the silver screen.
Singer Ani Chhoying Dolma, who watched the film on Monday, said the film was very beautiful. She also requested the production team to exhibit the film in schools across the country.
“This is the best Nepali film I have watched so far. All schools should show films like these to their students. It is the documentation of our social history,” she added.
Film analyst and politician Raghuji Pant said he has come to watch the films for the second time. “This is an organic story of Nepali taste. This film is the answer to those who have been questioning how Nepali films should be,” he added.
Giving the film five out of five rating, litterateur Nayan Raj Pandey said watching the film was like a silent meditation of one and half hours. “I have rarely seen such simple storytelling in Nepali cinema. Perhaps I have never seen it before,” he added. “This film asks you questions. The beautifully weaved screenplay and top-notch direction have given this film a different height.”
Theater director Bimal Subedi said the film will always remain on the list of best Nepali films that he has watched.
Likewise, director Dipendra Lama termed ‘Aainaa Jhyaal Ko Putali’ a satisfying watch after Mukundo and Numafung. “After Numafung and Mukundo, which means after 20 years, this film has become the most satisfying watch for me,” Lama said, adding: “This film stands tall like Everest in the crowd of immature films being marketed as ‘organic’ and ‘original’.”
Actors Deepak Raj Giri, Deepashree Niraula and Keki Adhikari, and singer Praksh Saput have praised the film stating that it tells their stories.
The film written and directed by Sujit Bidari is being released on Friday. The film metaphorically presents a butterfly stuck on the windowpane as a teenage girl’s dream for higher education.
