Kathmandu Horror Film Festival to screen 25 films from 15 countries

KATHMANDU: Twenty-five films from 15 countries have been selected for screening at the Kathmandu Horror Film Festival 2025 that kicks off on October 31.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday, Nepal Film & Cultural Academy (NFCA), the organizers of the festival, said films based on folklore, myths and various horror and mystery themes will be screened during the festival.

The organizers said they had received over 100 submissions from different countries.

The festival will be held at the Russian House in Kathmandu from October 31 to November 2.

Awards will be presented in three categories — Best Feature Film, Best Short Film and Best Youth Film.

The best films will be selected by a jury comprising Nepali cinematographer and photographer Raj Bhai Suwal, German film critic Hosam Fahmy, Swedish and Latvian film critic Alexandra Enberg and Moroccan film critic Yasmine Bouchfar.

According to the organizers, the festival aims to promote the production and development of horror films in Nepal. “Since very few horror films are produced in the country, the Nepali audiences are in search of something new,” the NFCA said in the statement. “This festival is our effort to enrich Nepal’s film culture, attract new generations to filmmaking through this genre, and open new avenues for expanding the film market.”

Films from Indonesia, Malaysia, India, the US, Russia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Canada, UAE, Serbia, Italy, Panama, Japan, Mexico and Nepal will be screened during the festival.
