POKHARA: Authorities in Kasi have decided to open the Seti River dam to search for a missing man.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the District Police Office, Kaski, announced that the dam would be opened at 8 am on Thursday to search for Man Bahadur Tamang, who disappeared while fishing in the Seti River on Sunday evening. “Despite efforts by a joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force to locate Tamang, all attempts have been unsuccessful. We have decided to open the dam at the request of Tamang’s family members,” the statement added.
The police have urged residents living downstream of the river to exercise caution as opening the dam could raise water levels in the river. “We urge people to stay away from the riverbank and to be cautious,” the district police said in the statement.
This is not the first time the police are opening the dam to search for a missing person. A few months ago, police located the body of a missing man after emptying the dam.
