POKHARA: District Police Office, Kaski, has denied allegations of mistreatment against Ravi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, while in police custody.
Issuing a press release on Sunday, the Kaski police expressed serious concern over misleading, false, and speculative claims circulating on social media. These claims alleged that police personnel had failed to use respectful language in court, entered the courtroom with weapons, threatened Lamichhane and mistreated him while in custody.
DSP Basanta Kumar Sharma, the Information Officer for the Kaski police, requested the public to share only fact-based information. The police warned that baseless and misleading news could spread misinformation among the public, create unnecessary suspicion and negatively impact the factual investigation of the case.
“Kaski police remains committed to conducting a fact-based and evidence-driven investigation following the criminal justice system’s values and principles as per Nepal’s constitution and prevailing laws,” it added.
Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu on October 19 and brought to Pokhara for an investigation into cooperative fraud and organized crime charges. Police extended police remand for Lamichhane by seven days on Thursday.
Police have also initiated a money laundering investigation against Lamichhane.
