KATHMANDU: The Nepal Premier League (NPL) will feature a double-header at the TU International Cricket Grounds on Tuesday, with teams looking to set the tone early in the season
The day’s opening match, scheduled for 11:45 am, pits Karnali Yaks against Chitwan Rhinos. Chitwan, which suffered two losses to Karnali in the inaugural season, including a knockout defeat in the Eliminator, will be eyeing redemption. Karnali, meanwhile, will be eager to extend its dominance.
Chitwan comes into the new season with a significantly strengthened squad. The franchise has brought in a strong lineup of foreign players, including seasoned Ravi Bopara, Sohail Tanvir, Saif Zaib, David Malan and Alpesh Ramjani. Under the captaincy of Kushal Malla, Chitwan is banking on these experienced international recruits to provide depth in both batting and bowling.
Karnali, led by seamer Sompal Kami, has also reinforced its ranks with impactful foreign signings. William Basisto, Mark Watt, Max O’Dowd, Najibullah Zadran, Priyank Panchal and Jaykishan Kolsawala headline its overseas roster.
The second match of the day, which begins at 4 pm, features Biratnagar Kings against Pokhara Avengers. These two sides produced one of the most thrilling contests last season. Their previous encounter ended in a tie at 139 runs each, with Pokhara clinching victory in a Super Over.
Both teams missed out on the play-offs last season and will be determined to begin their campaign on a positive note. Pokhara will be led by national team opener Kushal Bhurtel, while Biratnagar will look to star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane for leadership. Both sides have assembled balanced squads, aiming for a turnaround this season.
