SURKHET: Candidates from the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML have emerged victorious in the National Assembly elections from Karnali Province.
Lalit Jang Shahi of the NC and Meena Singh Rakhal of the UML have been elected to the upper house from Katnali Province, according to Chief Election Officer Lal Bahadur Gurung.
Shahi, who received 3,278 votes, defeated Buddhi Prasad Sharma of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) in the Others cluster.
Similarly, Rakhal, who secured 3,278 votes, defeated Anju Mahtar, also from the NCP, in the women’s cluster.
NC and UML had formed an alliance across the country for the National Assembly elections.
Provincial assembly members, and chiefs and deputy chiefs of local units are eligible to vote in the National Assembly elections. Out of 40 provincial assembly members, 39 cast their votes, while 152 out of 158 local-level representatives participated in the voting.
