KATHMANDU: Jeewan Bahadur Shahi, the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress in the Karnali Provincial Assembly, has been automatically suspended after a corruption case was filed against him at the Special Court.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption against Shahi and 32 others at the Special Court on Thursday. They have been accused of causing a loss of Rs 1.47 billion to the state in the procurement of two Airbus A330 jets for the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC). As per the provisions in the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2001 and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Act, 1991, individuals holding public office are automatically suspended once a corruption case is filed against them.
Shahi will remain suspended until a final verdict is delivered by the Special Court.
