Karnali Chief Ministers passes floor test

SURKHET: Karnali Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel has secured the vote of confidence of the province assembly.

In the vote held in the Karnali Province Assembly on Monday, 23 members voted in favor of the motion of vote of confidence tabled by Kandel, while 14 voted against the motion.

Kandel underwent the floor test after the CPN (Maoist Center) withdrew its support following the formation of a new alliance of CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) in the center.

As per the constitution, the Chief Minister must face the parliament within 30 days if a coalition partner withdraws support or leaves the government.

Kandel inducted four ministers from the Nepali Congress (NC) into his cabinet on Sunday.

The 40-member Karnali Province Assembly currently has 39 members: 10 from CPN-UML (including the Speaker), 13 from the Maoist Center, 14 from Nepali Congress, and one each from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the CPN (Unified Socialist). One assembly member, Jivan Bahadur Shahi of NC, is currently suspended after a corruption case was filed against him in the Special Court.

Kandel, who was appointed Chief Minister on April 9, had earlier secured a vote of confidence on April 26.
