KATHMANDU: Ace mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa, 53, climbed to the summit of Mt Everest for a record 27th time on Wednesday.
“This morning at 8:30 am, Kami Rita Sherpa successfully summited Mount Everest for an incredible 27th time as part of the Seven Summit Treks Everest Expedition 2023,” Seven Summit Treks, Sherpa’s expedition organizer, said in a social media post.
Before Wednesday’s summit, Kami Rita shared the record of most Everest ascents with Pasang Dawa Sherpa. Pasang Dawa recorded his 26th Everest summit on Sunday.
Born on January 17, 1970, in Thame village of Solukhumbu district, Kami Rita took the record maximum Everest summits to his name when he reached the top of Mt Everest on May 16, 2018. He logged his 26th summit on May 7, 2022.
Kami Rita first climbed Mt Everest in 1994. He has reached the Everest summit every year since then except in 1995, 1996, 2001, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2020. He reached the summit twice in 2019, 2009, 2010 and 2013.
He has climbed Cho Oyu eight times, Manaslu three times and K2 and Lhotse one time each.
