Kamala bridge construction: Local youth end hunger strike

KATHMANDU: The hunger strike organized by youth in front of the Office of the Chief Minister in Janakpurdham, the capital of Madhesh Province, demanding the construction of a bridge over the Kamala River, has ended.

The youths agreed to end the protest after signing a four-point agreement with the provincial government. Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh officially ended the trike by offering juice to the participants.

The province government has agreed to lobby with the federal government to allocate funds for bridge construction in the budget for the fiscal year 2025/26 budget. If it fails to get funds from the federal government, the provincial government has expressed commitment to bear the entire cost from its resources. Likewise, the province government has agreed to initiate the tendering process to select a contractor for the project by December.

The youth launched the hunger strike on August 20, demanding the bridge over the Kamala River.
