Jun Maya sets national record in weightlifting

POKHARA: Jun Maya Chhantyal of Nepal Police Club has clinched gold in women’s 71 kg weightlifting in the ongoing 9th National Games, setting a national record

Chhantyal set the national record in both snatch and clean & jerk in women’s 71 kg weightlifting on Tuesday morning. She lifted a total of 167 kg – 68 kg in snatch and 89 kg in clean & jerk.

Sarita Lama of Nepal APF Club lifted 117 kg – 52 kg in snatch and 65 kg in clean & jerk – to win silver. Similarly, Saraswati Puri of Nepal Police Club bazzed bronze, lifting 115 kg. She lifted 50 kg in snatch and 65 kg in clean & jerk.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 64 kg category played on Tuesday,  Sharada Chaudhary of Nepal Army Club won the gold, lifting 147 kg – 67 kg in snatch and 80 kg in clean & jerk. Raj Laxmi Thapa of Nepal Police Club won silver lifting 128 kg. She lifted 57 kg in snatch and 71 kg in clean & jerk. Prashansa Pun of Nepal Army Club lifted 118 kg – 53 kg in snatch and 65 kg in clean & jerk – to win bronze.

There are 10 events each in the men’s and women’s categories in weightlifting in the national games. Altogether 172 athletes, including 76 women, are participating in weightlifting in the 9th National Games.
