JSP quits Koshi Province government

ITAHARI: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has left the Koshi Province Government.

JSP ladder Rakam Chemjog said the meeting of the party held on Wednesday decided to withdraw support to Hikmat Bahadur Karki-led government also recall its minister.

Nirmala Limbu of JSP is currently holding  health portfolio in the province government.

“There is no point in staying in the government as the government is failing to find a solution to the ongoing stalemate,” Chemjong said.

Pro-identity activists have taken to the streets to protest the naming of the province as ‘Koshi Province’. CPN (Maoist Center), which voted in favor of Koshi Province, has already admitted that it was a mistake to vote for ‘Koshi Province’ and that it is for reconsideration of the decision.

Although JSP has withdrawn its support to the provincial government, Maoist Center has yet to take a decision to withdraw from the government.

The 93-member Koshi Province Assembly has 40 members from CPN-UMl, 29 from Nepali Congress, 13 from CPN (Maoist Center), six from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, four from CPN (Unified Socialist), and one from JSP.

The support of 47 province assembly members is required to form government in the province.

UML and RPP together have 46 lawmakers, while other parties.
