JANAKPURDHAM: A month after the party split, the Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal (JSP Nepal), is holding its National Unity Convention in Janakpur starting Monday.
This is the first time in 16 years that the Upendra Yadav-led JSP Nepal is holding its general convention. Yadav entered active politics by forming the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum after the political changes of 2006. Over the years, the party underwent various mergers and unifications and eventually became JSP Nepal.
According to party leaders, Yadav is seeking re-election as the party’s chairperson. Following the departure of Ashok Kumar Rai, Rajendra Shrestha, Mohammad Istiyak Rai, and other leaders from the party, there is no significant challenge to Yadav’s leadership.
However, a party source said Raj Kishor Yadav might challenge Upendra Yadav for the party’s top position.
The three-day general convention will elect 20 office-bearers, including one chairperson, one joint-chairperson, five vice-chairpersons, two general secretaries, three deputy general secretaries, seven secretaries, and one treasurer, along with 201 executive committee members.
