KATHMANDU: Ruling coalition partner, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has undergone a split.
Seven lawmakers of the party led by Vice Chairperson Ashok Rai have registered an application with the Election Commission for party registration on Sunday, according to JSP lawmaker Pradeep Yadav.
They have proposed to name the new party as Janata Samajbadi Party.
JSP Nepal has 12 members in the House of Representatives. Of them, Ashok Kumar Rai, Pradip Yadav, Nawal Kishor Sah, Birendra Mahato, Ranju Thakur, Hasina Khan and Sushila Shrestha have signed the application to register a new party, according to Yadav.
JSP Nepal Chairperson Upendra Yadav is currently on a visit to the US. He is expected to arrive in Kathmandu later today.
