KATHMANDU: A tribute has been paid to journalist Suresh Rajak who lost his life during the violent protests by supporters of the former king.
Under the leadership of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), a protest was held at Maitighar on Saturday morning. Participating journalists demanded a thorough investigation into Rajak’s death and strict action against those responsible.
Similar demonstrations and sit-ins were organized in various parts of the country to condemn the killing of the journalist.
Rajak, a cameraperson for Avenues Television, was covering the protest led by former king supporters from a building in Tinkune which was torched by protesters on Friday. His charred body was discovered after protesters left the scene.
Acting President of the FNJ, Deepak Acharya, said all journalists should unite for their safety and security. He also pledged that the FNJ would do all possible to ensure justice for the late journalist Rajak.
Additionally, FNJ’s central treasurer, Ram Krishna Adhikari, stated that an emergency meeting of the FNJ would be held on Saturday to decide further protest programs. He also said that the FNJ also plans to submit a memorandum to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
