KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to go for a competitive bidding to hire a ground-handling service provider at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.
In a notice posted on the social media site X (formerly known as Twitter), CAAN stated that it decided to opt for competitive bidding as per Rule 5 (2) of Airport Service Charge Regulations, 2021.
Until now, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has been providing ground handling services at TIA without facing any competition.
This decision comes as a significant blow to NAC, as revenue from ground handling services constitutes a major portion of its total revenue. NAC has been generating approximately Rs 5 billion annually from ground handling services at TIA.
