Jhankri expresses disagreement with her party’s planned merger with Maoist Center

KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Ram Kumari Jhankri has openly expressed her disagreement on the planned merger of her party with CPN the (Maoist Center).

Writing a post on her Facebook page, Jhankri, said that the unification with the Maoist Center being pursued to meet personal needs and resolve leadership crises could instead push the party toward division. “A unity formed out of personal necessity and crisis management can splinter into multiple factions. It is possible to show a majority by adding numbers, but that does not necessarily reflect the collective sentiment,” she wrote.

Jhakri’s remarks have sparked fresh controversy within the party. While party Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal supports the merger, leaders like Jhakri have begun criticizing it as a theoretical deviation motivated by personal interest.

Once a close ally of Madhav Kumar Nepal during the split from the CPN-UML and the formation of the Unified Socialist, Jhakri is now seen leaning closer to the UML. She has been arguing that unification with the UML would be more beneficial than merging with the Maoist Center.

Jhankri is not the only Unified Socialist leader that have stood against the merger. The party’s senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal and General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal, among other leaders, have warned that a merger with the Maoist Center would undermine the ideological foundation of the Unified Socialist.
