KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has selected six candidates for the National Assembly election.
The party has picked Roshni Meche from Koshi Province and Dr Prem Kumar Dangal from Bagmati Province.
Similarly, Smarana Devkota has been named as the candidate from Gandaki, Ram Kumari Jhakri from Lumbini, Meena Rakhal from Karnali, and Leela Kumari Bhandari from Sudurpaschim.
Jhankari, who ditched UML to join CPN (Unified Socialist), chose to return to UML after the Unified Socialist decided to merge with CPN (Maoist Center) to form Nepali Communist Party (NCP).
The party is yet to pick its candidate from Madhesh Province.
As per the election program published by the Election Commission, candidates are required to file their nominations on Wednesday.
The six-year term of 19 National Assembly members is expiring on March 4. Eighteen of them will be elected through a voting, while one will be nominated by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
Province assembly members, and mayors/chairpersons and deputy mayors/chairpersons of local units are eligible to vote in the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25.
