KATHMANDU: The Japanese government has helped build a turmeric processing center in Pyuthan district.
Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Kikuta Yutaka handed over the processing center to Pyuthan Municipality on Tuesday, according to a press statement issued by the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu.
The project was implemented by the Volunteer Nepal National Group and supported by the Government of Japan with a grant of $81,180 (approximately Rs 10 million) under the Grassroots and Human Security Grant Assistance Project (GGP)
“The project aims to improve the livelihood of local farmers by increasing production efficiency and developing the commercialization of turmeric for the people in Ward 8 of Pyuthan Municipality and neighboring areas,” the Japanese Embassy said in the statement.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ambassador Kikuta appreciated the efforts of all those involved in the project. He expressed hope that the project would greatly contribute to improving the livelihoods of local farmers.
