KATHMANDU: The Government of Japan has handed over medical equipment worth $90,550 to Shushma Koirala Memorial Hospital.

Japanese Ambassador Kikuta Yutaka handed over two ventilators and an autologous skin graft expander for skin graft surgery to the hospital located in Shankarapur Municipality on Monday.

The support was extended under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), according to a statement issued by the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Kikuta appreciated the efforts of all those involved in the project. He said that the project has been a great help for the patients since it is important for severe burns to get immediate and specialized treatment to prevent complications.

Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital was established in 1997 in memory of the late Sushma Koirala. It specializes in medical services in plastic and reconstructive surgery, including the treatment of burns and post-burn scar contractures and deformities.

Over 200 GGP projects have been implemented in Nepal since 1991, according to the statement.
