Khan to become House panel chair unopposed after RSP withdraws

KATHMANDU: Abdul Khan of Janamat Committee will be elected chairperson of the Industry, Commerce, and Consumer Interest Committee of the House of Representatives unopposed after the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) announced on Monday that its candidate for the post, Ganesh Parajui, has withdrawn from the race.

Santosh Pariyar, the Chief Whip of the RSP, informed reporters on Monday that Parajuli has formally withdrawn his candidacy.

Parajuli had registered his candidacy on Sunday as a form of protest after the ruling coalition and the main opposition parties distributed the posts of chairpersons of 10 parliamentary committees among themselves. They had allotted the post to Abdul Khan of the Janamat Party.

Only one candidacy has been registered in each of the remaining nine committees of the lower house.
