KATHMANDU: CK Raut-led Janamat Party has withdrawn from the Madhesh Province Government.

BP Sah, secretary of the Janamat Party, told Himal Press over the phone that the party has decided to exit the Madhesh Province Government. “No decision has been taken on our participation in the federal government and the Lumbini Province Government,” he added.

Janamat Party held two ministerial positions in the Madhesh cabinet, with Mahesh Prasad Yadav serving as the Minister for Education and Culture, and Chandan Singh as the Minister for Labor and Transport.

“We have also chosen to withdraw our support from the province government,” Sah added.

Janamat Party has 13 members in the Madhesh Province Assembly.

Janamat Party made this decision a day after a clash ensued between its leader and cadres, and police in Sarlahi during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a proposed agriculture university. The party alleged that the police baton-charged its supporters who had gathered to welcome the chief guest.

Janamat Party was dissatisfied with the provincial government’s decision to invite Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav as Chief Guest in the ceremony.
