Janamat, Nagarik Unmukti agree to finalize merger by April 28

KATHMANDU: Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party have finalized their unification. The decision was reached during a meeting of leaders from both parties in Bardiya on Sunday.

As per the agreement, Resham Chaudhary of Nagarik Unmukti will serve as the patron of the unified party, while Janamath Chairperson CK Raut will serve as the Executive Chairperson and Nagarik Unmukti’s Ranjita Chaudhary Shrestha as the Co-Chairperson.

In the party hierarchy, Resham will hold the top position, followed by Raut in second place and Ranjita in third.

The meeting also settled key details, including the name, election symbol, and flag of the unified party. The new entity will be called the ‘Nagarik-Janamat Party’ with the “dhakiya” (a traditional basket) as its election symbol. The flag will feature a magenta background with the dhakiya symbol at its center.

Janamat Spokesperson Dr Sharad Singh Yadav said members of the six-member joint taskforce and Janamat Chairperson Raut and Nagarik Unmukti Patron Resham held a discussion in Bardiya on Sunday.

“The two parties have agreed to complete the unification process by April 28. Broad agreement has been reached on most issues. We’ll resolve the remaining points in tomorrow’s meeting,” Yadav told Himal Press over the phone.
