Issues with general convention won’t lead to party split: Sharma

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has insisted that the party would not split simply because of the issues related to the general convention.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s central office in Lalitpur on Friday, Sharma said all the contentious issues would be resolved through talks. “Efforts to find solutions as per the party statute won’t result in a split; instead, it would unite the party further,” he added.

Sharma also said the party needs to move forward with new leadership, policies, and vision, rather than limiting the discussion to the date of the general convention alone.

“Since the convention could not be held on time, both general secretaries issued a statement to postpone the regular convention and go for a special convention as demanded by the convention representatives,” he added. “Holding a special convention to select new leadership with new ideas is the party’s main option to prepare for the elections.”
