KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Israel in Kathmandu has facilitated a humanitarian initiative under which four Israeli optometrists provided free vision care and prescription eyeglasses to hundreds of residents of remote villages in Pokhara.

The initiative targeted locals, including children and elderly people, from villages around Ghatichhina in Pokhara–23, according to a statement issued by the embassy. “After conducting eye examinations during a visit to Pokhara two months ago, the Israeli optometrists—M. Yosifovich, Y. Segal, N. Weiss, and D. Golduser—returned to Israel, prepared the prescribed eyeglasses and sent them to Nepal for distribution,” the statement added.

The eyeglasses were handed over to the beneficiaries amid a ceremony held in Ghatichhina on Thursday. Janan Bebar, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel, formally distributed the glasses.

“The initiative reflects the strong people-to-people ties between Israel and Nepal and emphasizes Israel’s commitment to supporting community well-being through cooperation and professional expertise all over Nepal,” the embassy added in the statement.
