KATHMANDU: Israel has presented President Ram Chandra Poudel with a rare speech by the late BP Koirala, Nepal’s first elected Prime Minister, delivered during his visit to Israel.
Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Goder Goldberger, handed over the historical speech to President Poudel at the Office of the President on Tuesday, as reported by the President’s Press Adviser, Kiran Pokharel.
Diplomatic relations between Nepal and Israel were established in 1960 during Koirala’s term as the Prime Minister of Nepal.
Koirala delivered this speech during his visit to Israel where he participated as the Chief Guest in the International Conference on Science in the Advancement of New States on August 15, 1960, according to Pokharel.
While presenting the speech, Ambassador Goder expressed his joy at sharing this piece of history with one of Koirala’s devoted followers – President Poudel, according to Pokharel.
In response, President Poudel conveyed his gratitude to Ambassador Goder for the historical gift. He also expressed happiness over the continued support provided by the Israeli government to Nepal in areas such as employment, agriculture, and cooperatives.
