KATHMANDU: The government has decided to stop providing visas on arrival to citizens of Iran.
Under the new provision, Iranian nationals, except those holding diplomatic or official passports, will now be required to obtain a visa from Nepali diplomatic missions abroad before entering Nepal.
With this, the number of countries whose citizens are not eligible for the visa-on-arrival facility has reached 13.
According to the Department of Immigration, people from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Syria are also not eligible for an on-arrival visa.
Similarly, individuals travelling with refugee travel documents will also be required to obtain a visa from Nepali diplomatic missions abroad before entering the country, according to Tikaram Dhakal, acting director general of the Department of Immigration.
