KATHMANDU: Iran scored two late goals to defeat 10-man Wales 2-0 on Friday.
Roozbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian scored in the 98th minute and 101st minute to give Iran the first win in Group C. Iran lost to England 0-4 in its opening game.
Wales keeper Wayne Hennessey was given marching orders for a foul outside the box in the 86th minute.
The first half was evenly poised. Kieffer Moore had the chance to give his side the lead in the 12 minutes before Iran’s Ali Gholizadeh found the back of the net. But his goal was ruled out by VAR.
Ali Gholizadeh hit the Welsh post in the 52nd minute. Sardar Azmoun also struck the woodwork soon after as his right-footed shot found the rightside of the post.
