KATHMANDU: The Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives has directed the government to investigate within 10 days the errors in the publication of results of the entrance examination conducted by the Medical Education Commission (MEC).
The committee issued the directive after discussing the matter with the Minister for Education, Science and Technology and officials of the commission on Wednesday.
Committee chair Ambar Bahadur Thapa stated that they have instructed the government to thoroughly investigate the weaknesses observed in the results of the integrated entrance exam for medical education. “The committee has also directed the MEC to make necessary improvements without compromising the merit system in the future,” he added.
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidya Bhattarai assured the committee that the ministry would conduct the necessary investigation. Bhattarai also insisted that the MEC has been allowed to work independently without any interference.
Dr Anjani Kumar Jha, the vice-chairperson of the MEC, acknowledged mistakes in publishing results based on roll numbers. “Discrepancies have occurred only in groups with identical scores. MEC is ready for investigation,” he added.
During the meeting, committee members demanded a thorough investigation, citing serious errors in the entrance examination. Students are also protesting against the MEC, claiming that the mismatch of roll numbers and scores has affected the results of over 3,000 students.
