Injury time goal denies Pakistan victory over defending champions Bangladesh

KATHMANDU: Defending champions Bangladesh scored in the second half of injury time to earn a late draw with Pakistan in the 2024 SAFF Women’s Championship at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The result means India has secured its place in the semifinals from Group ‘A’. India defeated Pakistan 5-2 in its opening match to collect all three points. Bangladesh and Pakistan have one point each. Bangladesh can join India in the semifinals even if it faces defeat against by conceding fewer goals.

Pakistan took the lead in the 32nd minute through Zahmena Malik. However, Bangladesh’s Shamsunnahar Junior found the equalizer in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

Two Group ‘B’ matches will be played on Monday. Bhutan will face Sri Lanka at 1:30 pm, while Nepal takes on the Maldives at 5:30 pm.
