KATHMANDU: Nepal will see a franchise-based women’s volleyball league in the near future. Infinity Dreams announced on Thursday that it was organizing Everest Women’s Volleyball League, a franchise-based women’s volleyball competition, in Kathmandu.
Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu, Amir Akhtar of Infinity Dreams said the league will feature six teams based in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Chitwan districts, and Gandaki, Madhesh and Karnali provinces. The dates for the league, however, has not been announced yet.
Infinity Dreams has signed a seven-year agreement with the Nepal Volleyball Association to organize the league. Akhtar said this will be the first women’s volleyball league in South Asia.
According to the organizers, each team will have 12 players, including three foreign players. Each team must include one Nepali marquee player and a local talent. The teams will select players from the draft prepared by the organizers.
The teams have already been purchased by various investors and corporate houses. According to the organizers, the teams will announce the team names and brand identity shortly.
