KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has stated that he would create an environment where the private sector won’t need to come to Singha Durbar with complaints.

Receiving the delegation of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) at his office in Singha Durbar on Wednesday, Minister Bhandari acknowledged that he was aware of the problems faced by the country’s business community and promised to do his best to address the issues affecting the economy. He added that the ministry was working on formulating short-term, medium-term and long-term plans to breathe new life into the economy.

“My efforts will be on bringing institutional reforms in the ministry to make the private sector confident about investing,” he added.

On the occasion, FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal urged Minister Bhandari to introduce policies that boost the private sector’s confidence. He emphasized the need to increase domestic investment to attract foreign investment as foreign investors look at the flow of domestic investment in the market before deciding to invest.

Stating that special economic zones and industrial areas have high leasing fees, Dhakal requested the ministers to address the issue.
