KATHMANDU: The Indrajatra festival was celebrated in Kathmandu as well as in different parts of the country on Friday with great fanfare and rejoicing.
The eight-day festival begins with a ceremonial erection of a pole with colorful flags in Basantapur. Various cultural dances, chariot processions and worshipping of different gods and goddesses are organizing during the eight days of the festival.
Chariots of Kumari – the living goddess, Bhairav and Ganesh accompanied by musical bands are pulled through the ancient settlements of Kathmandu for three days during the festival.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba among other dignitaries had reached Basantapur to observe the festival.
