KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that individuals, who harassed people that are in Kathmandu to participate in Durga Prasai’s demonstration on Tuesday night, are not associated with his party.
Videos posted on social media sites on Wednesday morning show some individuals, reportedly Youth Association Nepal (YAN) cadres, harassing women sleeping at a party venue in Kathmandu. They can be heard saying “You have to come here to participate in Durga Prasai’s demonstration. You cannot stay here”.
Speaking at the central working committee meeting of the party on Wednesday, Oli termed the allegations as baseless attempts to tarnish the image of the UML.
“I have spoken with the leaders of the Youth Association Nepal (YAN) after the video in question was made public. They informed me that YAN leaders and cadres were not involved,” Oli stated.
Oli said there are forces attempting to lead the country into regression by altering the system, and the status-quoist supporting the existing system. “We must not allow either of these forces to succeed,” Oli said.
