KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India in Kathmandu and Maiti Nepal have jointly organized an event in Kathmandu to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The theme for the celebration was “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress and #InspireInclusion, according to a statement issued by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.
Two outstanding women – Menuka Paudel and Ratna Kumari Sunuwar – were felicitated during the event for their inspiring accomplishments. Paudel, an Indian Idol contestant, has garnered accolades both in Nepal and India, while Sunuwar made headlines by completing her Class 12 education at the remarkable age of 80, proving that age is no barrier to learning, the statement added.
Former Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Ashta Lakshmi Shakya, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Anuradha Koirala, founder of Maiti Nepal, also participated in the celebrations.
The highlight of the event was a captivating performance by singer Paudel. Likewise, women musicians from Kathmandu curated by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, and girl students from Maiti Nepal also performed during the event.
