KATHMANDU: India entered the final of the Women’s Asia Cup, thrashing Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the first semifinal in Dambulla on Friday.
Batting first, Bangladesh could make only 80 runs, losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. India chased down the target in 11 overs, helped by opener Smriti Mandhana’s aggressive knock of 55 runs off 39 balls.
Captain Nigar Sultana scored 32 for Bangladesh, while Shorna Akter remained unbeaten at 19 off 18 balls. Other Bangladeshi batters failed to reach double digits.
Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav took three wickets each to restrict Bangladesh to 80. Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma had a wicket each to their names.
Chasing 81 runs for a spot in the final, Indian openers made light work of the chase. Mandhana scored nine fours and a six as she reached 55 from 39 balls, while Shafali Verma contributed with 26 runs.
Sri Lanka is playing against Pakistan in the second semifinal on Friday evening.
