KATHMANDU: India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in a one-sided affair at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to claim its 8th Asia Cup title.
India made Sri Lanka regret its decision to bat first after winning the toss, as they bowled out the hosts for just 50 runs in 15.2 overs. Apart from Kusal Mendis and Dushan Hemantha, no other Sri Lankan batters reached double digits. While Mendis scored 17, Hemantha remained not out at 13 off 15 balls. Five Sri Lankan batters were dismissed without scoring.
Mohammad Siraj tore through the Sri Lankan batting lineup, taking six wickets while giving away just 21 runs in his six-over spell.
In the second over of his spell, he dismissed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva to leave the hosts reeling at 12/5 at the end of the fourth over. In his third over, he claimed the wicket of Dasun Shanaka. He got his sixth wicket when he bowled Kusal Mendis in the 12th over of the game.
Hardik Pandya and took three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah had one wicket to his name.
Indian batters made light work of the chase, surpassing the target in just 6.1 overs without losing any wickets. Ishan Kishan scored 23 from 18 balls, while Shubman Gill scored 27 runs off 19 balls.
