India provides 10 modular bridges worth Rs 730 million

KATHMANDU: India has decided to provide 10 modular bridges to Nepal to support post-disaster connectivity as part of its grant assistance.

At a special ceremony in Hetauda on Thursday, Indian ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, handed over a 70-meter modular bridge along with specialized launching tools to Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising.

Issuing a statement, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said the modular bridge will be transported to Ramechhap, where road links were disrupted following the heavy rains earlier this year.

“India is committed to delivering a total of 10 such 70-meter and higher span bridges requested by Nepal after the devastating rains in October 2025, which affected eastern Nepal. The 10 Bailey bridges worth more than Rs 730 million are being provided on a grant basis by India,” the statement added.

Last year, in the aftermath of the September floods and landslides, India supplied 10 prefabricated steel bridges worth Rs 410. Four of these bridges have already been installed.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Srivastava said the supply of the modular bridges and the launching tools is a powerful testament to the enduring bonds of friendship that define the India-Nepal relationship and a reaffirmation of India’s policy of extending all possible support for Nepal’s infrastructure development and post-disaster reconstruction efforts.

Similarly, Minister Ghising thanked the Indian government for the support and said the bridge would be quickly operationalized.
