India, Pakistan advance to Women’s Asia Cup semis

KATHMANDU: India and Pakistan have advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup, winning their respective last group-stage matches on Tuesday.

India defeated Nepal by 82 runs, while Pakistan thrashed UAE by 10 wickets in Dambulla to book their spots in the semis.

Batting first, India scored 178 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 20 overs, helped by Shafali Verma’s 48-ball 81. They then bundled out Nepal for 96 runs, with Deepti Sharma taking three wickets and Arundhati Reddy and Radha Yadav contributing two wickets each.

In the first match, Pakistan restricted UAE to 103 runs and chased down the target without losing any wickets in 14.1 overs.

India advanced to the semifinals as the group winner, having won all three matches by a huge margin. Pakistan won two and lost one (against India) to advance to the semis as the runner-up. Nepal won one and lost two matches, while UAE remained winless.

India will meet the second-placed team of Group B in the semis, while Pakistan will play against the winner of Group B.

Sri Lanka is playing against Thailand, and Bangladesh is taking on Malaysia in their last group-stage matches on Wednesday.
