KATHMANDU: India has handed over the third tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal to support preparations for the upcoming elections.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava presented the assistance to Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal amid a ceremony at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.
The third tranche includes more than 270 vehicles and other supplies, as requested by the Government of Nepal for election logistics and security management, the embassy said in a statement.
Of these, 50 trucks have been provided to the Nepali Army. Ambassador Srivastava handed over the trucks to Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Aryal thanked the Indian government for the timely support.
Earlier, India had handed over the first two tranches of election assistance—comprising more than 310 vehicles and other supplies—on January 20 and January 29.
The embassy said that the support reflects the multi-faceted development partnership between the two countries and symbolizes the deep-rooted friendship between the peoples of Nepal and India.
