KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India is providing financial assistance for the construction of a multipurpose building in Arun Rural Municipality, Bhojpur.

Shalikram Khatri, chairperson of Arun Rural Municipality, and Avinash Kumar Singh, counsellor at the embassy, jointly laid the foundation stone for the Arun Multipurpose Community Building on Monday. Political leaders, local government officials, and community members attended the event.

The Government of India is providing Rs 31.88 million for the construction of the three-storey building under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation program. The facility will include classrooms, a teachers’ room, a meeting hall, a program hall, and separate restrooms for boys and girls.

The project is being implemented as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) through Arun Rural Municipality. Once completed, the building is expected to make a significant contribution to the educational and cultural development of the local community, the embassy said in a statement.

Speaking at the event, Chairperson Khatri said the project would strengthen infrastructure for education and social development in the region.

Since 2003, the Government of India has undertaken over 570 HICDPs across Nepal, including 93 in Koshi Province. India has also donated 1,049 ambulances and 300 school buses to various institutions.
