India gifts more than 250 vehicles to support March 5 elections

KATHMANDU: India has gifted the second tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal as part of its support for the country’s preparations for the upcoming elections.

The assistance, comprising more than 250 vehicles, was formally handed over on Thursday amid a ceremony at the Ministry of Finance in Kathmandu. India’s Charge d’affaires a.i., Dr Rakesh Pandey, handed over the vehicles to Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyaya in the presence of Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Khanal highlighted the longstanding friendly relations and cooperation between Nepal and India. He thanked the government and people of India for the support and said the assistance would play an important role in facilitating election preparations.

The vehicles are part of the assistance requested by the Government of Nepal to help ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming polls, according to the embassy.

Earlier, the first tranche of election-related assistance from India was handed over on January 20.
