KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba has stated that India has expressed its support for a democratic system in Nepal.
Talking to journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) upon her arrival from India on Friday, Rana said although there were limited discussions on political matters with the Indian side, she felt that India favors a democratic system in Nepal.
She added that Indian authorities were currently engaging with the Nepali government and that she did not perceive any intention from India to push for a change in Nepal.
During her stay in India, Minister Rana held bilateral discussions with her Indian counterpart and other foreign ministers on matters of mutual interest. She shared that the meetings reviewed the progress made in recent bilateral mechanisms between Nepal and India and discussed ways to make other mechanisms more active and strengthen bilateral cooperation further.
The foreign minister also said she made diplomatic efforts to increase electricity exports to Nepal. Similarly, she added that during her meeting with Ricky Gill, Senior Director of the US National Security Council, she urged the United States to continue its essential support to Nepal and to facilitate the safe release of Bipin Joshi who has gone missing since the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023.
