KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that India does not support the royalist movement in Nepal.
Speaking at a seminar organized by the Ganesh Man Singh Foundation in Kathmandu on Monday, Deuba clarified that even though photographs of Yogi Adityanath, BJP leader and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh state of India, were displayed during royalist protests, Indian leaders have not backed such movements. He expressed gratitude for Yogi Adityanath’s commitment to supporting the republican system in Nepal and not opposing its constitution or system.
Deuba added that Nepal-India relations remain deep and positive. He suggested that an early invitation from India to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli could further enhance bilateral ties, adding that any issues between the two nations could be resolved through dialogue.
Also speaking on the occasion, CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali said that democracy provides a vital foundation for bolstering Nepal-India relations. He affirmed their commitment to reinforcing the democratic republic and said criticism within a democracy should be viewed as natural. Gyawali cautioned against attempts to exploit public discontent or fish in troubled waters, calling such actions inappropriate.
Participants at the event also highlighted the significant contributions of India’s former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar in strengthening Nepal-India ties. They praised his substantial support for Nepal’s democratic movement, underscoring his lasting impact on bilateral relations.
