KATHMANDU: Nepalis visiting the southern neighbor will now be able to obtain Indian SIM cards.
India’s Department of Telecommunications issued a circular to its telecom operators on Monday, stating that mobile connections can be provided to Nepali and Bhutanese citizens visiting India if they present a citizenship certificate, voter ID card, or a limited validity photo-identity certificate issued by their respective missions in India.
According to the circular, the validity of such connections shall not exceed three months.
The decision comes as a great relief to Nepalis visiting India who were facing inconveniences due to a lack of mobile connection.
Great news! Nepali nationals can now obtain a SIM card on the basis of their passport, Citizenship Certificate, voter’s ID, or ID issued by the Embassy. Citizens of🇳🇵were denied a SIM card earlier due to technical reasons.
