Indefinite curfew imposed in Birgunj

KATHMANDU: The local administration of Parsa has imposed an indefinite curfew in the main market areas of Birgunj Metropolitan City from 9:45 am on Monday.

Chief District Officer of Parsa, Bhola Dahal, imposed the curfew under the Local Administration Act, prohibiting all movement, public gatherings, rallies, meetings, and demonstrations within the designated area until further notice.

According to the local administration, the curfew covers key areas up to Bypass Road in the east, Sirsiya River in the west, Gandak Chowk in the north, and Shankaracharya Gate near the Nepal–India border in the south.

Essential services vehicles like ambulances, fire engines, and vehicles carrying health workers are allowed to operate during the curfew period. The administration has also permitted the movement of journalists, examinees attending scheduled university exams, tourists, and diplomatic vehicles with security coordination.

The curfew follows a clash between two communities in Shripur Tole of Birgunj-11 on Sunday evening.
