KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide relief to families of individuals missing due to monsoon-related disasters, equal to what is given to families of the deceased, provided the person remains missing for at least 10 days.

A cabinet meeting held on Monday took the decision.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung said that this relief will apply to families of individuals missing due to monsoon-related disasters in mid-April 2023.

According to Gurung, the cabinet has authorized the Ministry of Finance to manage payments for projects and programs completed in fiscal year 2023/24 that remain unpaid but were included in the approved budget.

Likewise, the meeting has formed a negotiation team to finalize agreement and program documents for a proposed $150 million concessional loan from the World Bank Group’s International Development Association (IDA) for bridge maintenance and repairs.

The cabinet also appointed Sharad Ojha as Chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority on the recommendation of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).

Likewise, the cabinet has promoted a Colonel of the Nepal Army to the rank of Brigadier General and a Lieutenant Colonel to the rank of Colonel. Similarly, it has decided to extend the tenure of one Major General.
